Where Stars and Stories Collide

Kim Kardashian Says ChatGPT Made Her Fail Law Exams — Calls AI Her “Toxic Frenemy”

Kim Kardashian has found herself in an unexpected academic rivalry, not with her law professors, but with ChatGPT. The reality star and aspiring lawyer recently revealed that her go-to artificial intelligence study buddy may have done her more harm than good.

In a new Vanity Fair lie detector interview alongside her All’s Fair co-star Teyana Taylor, the 45-year-old SKIMS founder confessed that she has been leaning on ChatGPT for help with her legal studies. But according to Kardashian, the AI tool’s answers are often way off — and it has even caused her to fail multiple tests.

When Taylor asked if she uses ChatGPT, Kardashian admitted, “Yes.” But when pressed on whether she uses it for personal advice, she quickly said, “No.” Instead, she explained, “I use it for legal advice. So when I am needing to know the answer to a question, I’ll take a picture and snap it and put it in there.”

ChatGPT: The Study Partner That Backfired

Kardashian didn’t shy away from admitting that her reliance on the AI tool has backfired in a big way.

“They’re always wrong,” she confessed. “It has made me fail tests all the time. And then I’ll get mad and I’ll yell at it and be like, ‘You made me fail! Why did you do this?’ And it will talk back to me.”

Her frustration with ChatGPT has clearly become a running joke in her study sessions. Despite the humorous tone, Kardashian admitted that her exchanges with the AI have turned into something resembling a friendship, albeit a complicated one.

When Teyana Taylor teased her by asking if that made ChatGPT her “frenemy,” Kardashian laughed and agreed. “Yes, a frenemy. But then I will talk to it and say, ‘Hey, you’re gonna make me fail. How does that make you feel – that you need to really know these answers? I’m coming to you.’”

When AI Turns Into a Therapist

As their conversation continued, Kardashian shared that ChatGPT doesn’t just give her wrong answers, it also tries to comfort her afterward.

“And then it’ll say back to me, ‘This is just teaching you to trust your own instincts. You knew the answer all along,’” Kardashian recalled, laughing.

Taylor chimed in, “So she clocked you,” to which Kardashian admitted, “Clocked me.”

The back-and-forth between the two stars made it clear that Kardashian’s interactions with ChatGPT have taken on a life of their own. “So, technically, you and ChatGPT are friends – just toxic friends,” Taylor joked.

Kardashian agreed, saying, “They need to do better. Because I’m leaning to them to really help me, and she is teaching me a life lesson – and then becoming my therapist to tell me why I need to believe in myself after they got the answer wrong.”

The AI “Frenemy” That Made It to the Group Chat

It turns out that Kardashian’s hilarious exchanges with ChatGPT don’t stay between her and the AI. She often shares them with her inner circle.

“It’s like a thing,” she said. “I screenshot all the time and send it in my group chat. Like, ‘Can you believe this b—h is talking to me like this? This is insane.’”

The lie detector operator later confirmed that Kardashian was telling the truth about her ChatGPT confessions.

From Reality TV to Real-Life Law

Despite her comical “AI feud,” Kardashian’s law journey is no joke. The daughter of the late attorney Robert Kardashian began studying law in 2018 through California’s Law Office Study Program, which allows students to apprentice under licensed attorneys instead of attending traditional law school.

She first revealed her legal ambitions in a 2019 Vogue interview and has been public about her challenges ever since. After failing California’s “baby bar” exam three times, Kardashian proudly passed it in 2021. She completed her six-year study program earlier this year and sat for the California bar exam in July. She’s now awaiting her results.

Kardashian has repeatedly said that her father’s work on the O.J. Simpson case inspired her to pursue law. Over the years, she has also been involved in criminal justice reform and has advocated for clemency in several high-profile cases.

A Lawyer On-Screen and Off

Ironically, Kardashian’s latest acting project also has her stepping into a legal role. In Hulu’s Ryan Murphy series All’s Fair, she stars alongside Teyana Taylor, Naomi Watts, Niecy Nash-Betts, and Sarah Paulson as part of an all-female law firm.

Given her real-life experiences with legal studies and her playful battles with ChatGPT, the role feels fitting. It’s another step in blending her entertainment career with her growing legal identity.

Can AI Be a Study Buddy?

Kardashian’s story might sound funny, but it also sparks a bigger question about how much students can or should rely on AI tools. While ChatGPT can be a great resource for summarizing or explaining concepts, it isn’t always accurate, especially when it comes to specialized fields like law.

Her experience shows that even the most advanced technology can’t replace human understanding. And in Kardashian’s case, her AI “study partner” might have been a little too confident for its own good.

As she put it best, “Because I’m leaning to them to really help me and she is teaching me a life lesson – and then becoming my therapist to tell me why I need to believe in myself after they got the answer wrong.”

A Lesson in Trusting Yourself

At the end of the day, Kim Kardashian’s “frenemy” relationship with ChatGPT might be teaching her the most important legal lesson of all — to trust her own instincts.

Whether she’s passing the bar or starring in a courtroom drama, one thing’s certain: Kim knows how to turn even her frustrations with technology into an entertaining story.

And if ChatGPT ever learns how to pass a California bar exam, Kardashian might just be the first to congratulate it, right after reminding it that it owes her a few test points.
